and Freshman year is over and done with! Made lots of new friends and created so many memories. I’m going to miss all the friends I’ve made that are either graduating or not returning next year. This year will always be one to remember!
So, my spring break consisted of spending time with family, going to a concert, one day of work, and having a some-what-of-a-reunion with my cousins at a baby shower. It was nothing too special, but it was definitely needed! I’m glad I was able to see the people I wanted to see. I just wish I had more time to see more people! I guess I just have to wait til summer..
Well, time to get my things packed and head back to Lacey! Have to go back to my reality of school and work.
Hope you all enjoyed your break as much as I did! :)
I keep checking Self-Service to find out my GPA and final grades, but I’m still waiting on two classes! As of right now I have a 3.70! So happy :) I’ll post a pic once everything is posted! Have an amazing Monday everyone! :)
I am now officially on Christmas break! It feels nice to be around family again. I definitely missed the home-cooked meals for sure! I don’t have plans for this month long break, but I’m sure plenty of things will come up.. There’s lots of old friends I’ll be seeing and for now I still have some Christmas shopping to do. We’ll see what happens, but there’s one thing I know for sure; it feels great to be home. :)
it’s the last week of classes! I’ve survived my first semester of college. :)
I’ve made a ton of new friends, got a job, well actually three, and am enjoying my life as a college student. There have been a lot of ups and downs through this experience. At the start of the semester it was a little hard to get used to things. I had to try hard to break my habit of procrastination, which I am still working on today. I have gotten much better at getting my work done on time. I was also a little homesick. I was excited to be away from home but I soon was tired of being away from home.
Things eventually started to get better. After I made some new friends that I now hang out with daily, college life seemed great! We all hung out between classes and afterwards. We all do homework together til late at night even if we don’t have the same classes. I also got a job with one of my friends at Burger King thanks to the Saints4Hire website and Ann Adams in the Career Center.
Well, this last week is dedicated to getting ready for finals! I’m nervous, but I can’t let that get in my way of knocking these finals out! I only have two finals on the scheduled days, which means I’m done on Tuesday, the 14th. I’m also a little sad since everyone will be going home for break. Most of my friends live in Tacoma which isn’t far from me in Spanaway, so we can hang out if we want. One of my friends though is going back to Las Vegas. I’m happy to go home, but at the same time I can’t wait to get back from break so I can see everyone again! :)
NOT my favorite days. Especially since we just got back from a four day weekend. My Thanksgiving was great but my weekend was cut short because I had to come back down for work on Saturday.. Ohh well though, at least I’m making some money! Just in time for Christmas too.
We only have two full weeks of classes, then finals and after the start of Christmas break! I am really looking forward to having a month off of school; although when we get back I know I’m going to have a hard time getting back into the swing of things. That’s just life I guess.. I’m just gonna make the most of my time at home, even though I’ll be driving down to Lacey a lot for work.
Well, I guess I can say I’m officially starting the countdown! There are 10 days (not including weekends) til finals and break! Yay :) I can’t wait!
Tonight was the second annual Black Student Union Ladies First Dinner in the Worthington Center. This is a night where men appreciate the women of SMU. Each table was designated to an escort who chose five ladies to sit at his table and be catered to for the night.
The tables were set up nicely. The dinner was catered by Bon Appetit. We were given sparkling apple cider, water, and iced tea to drink. We first started off with a roll and ceasar salad.
Then, for the main course was a slice of pork loin with mashed potatoes and gravy, and green beans. It was delicious!
For dessert, we had cheesecake topped with berries.
While we were eating dessert, the men all took turns on stage showing their appreciation for the women who attended the dinner, especially the ones at their table. At the end, all the escorts did a performance together.
It was definitely a great night and I hope I can participate again next year!
pretty amazing! I loved almost every part about it. I don’t really want to spoil it for those who haven’t seen it yet, so I won’t say which parts I liked and didn’t.
I absolutely love the Twilight saga. I wish I would’ve gotten into it sooner so I could have read the books before watching any of the movies. Before the premiere, Hui’O’Hawaii Club showed the first three movies during the week. My friend and I went to all of them.
I went to the midnight premiere yesterday. Campus Life bought out a whole theater just for Saint Martin’s students and staff! I was the 26th person to buy tickets out of the 250 that were being sold. I really didn’t want to miss out on getting my tickets!
It’s only Wednesday and this week feels like it’s been going by so slowly! I’m just anticipating tomorrow night when I can finally go watch the premier of Breaking Dawn Part 1 at midnight! I am so glad that the school bought out a theater for us here at Saint Martin’s and that tickets are only $5. I don’t think I would’ve gone to watch it til later if it wasn’t like that.
Anyway… It’s International Education Week and SMU has been putting on so many activities and events for everyone on campus to attend! Today was the Taste of Culture. It was in the Marcus Pavilion from 11:30am-1:30pm. There were performances and tons of dishes from different cultures that you could try. It was a lot of fun!
Well, hope everyone has a wonderful rest of the week!
Yesterday, in honor of Veteran’s Day, Campus PROS showed a documentary in the TUB called Tattooed Under Fire. The documentary was about soldiers from Fort Hood, Texas that go and get tattoos before and after they go to war in Iraq.
It was a very touching documentary. It really gave insight to what soldiers have to go through when they are deployed. You honestly can’t completely understand what happened while they were over there, but you can see how bad it can affect them when they get back.
After watching this, I was tearing up because I was so touched by some of the stories. I have so much respect for our troops and veterans around the world.
The President’s Gala is an annual fundraiser event to help raise money for scholarships that the school gives out. This year, chef Mario Batali came for a meet and greet and a culinary demonstration of a five-course meal that was served to the guests.
The Gala was held in the Marcus Pavilion. It was decorated so beautifully that you wouldn’t even had known that it was a gym. Everything looked so elegant and too nice to touch.
I attended the Gala as a volunteer. Since I volunteered through a club, I raised $40 for the hours I was there. I had to bus tables when guests were finished with their plates and wine glasses. We had to wear black pants, black shoes, and they gave us a black button-up shirt and a nice apron when we got there.
This was definitely a once in a lifetime experience, and I’m glad I made the decision to volunteer!
It’s the second week of the Intramural Volleyball season here at SMU. I think there are six teams total. We only play one game a week, but its still really fun. Volleyball is definitely my favorite sport and I’m glad I’m able to play here at school. My team is made up of nine freshmen. We’re pretty good because most of us have played volleyball before. I like intramural since its more about having fun than being serious and winning. Well, I mean winning is a part of it, but its not as serious as varsity sports. So far my team is 2-0. Hopefully we can keep our winning streak all the way to the end!
Some friends and I decided at 11:00pm the other day that we wanted to eat steak. So, we went to Winco, bought everything we needed and made us a great meal. By the time everything was done cooking it was 2:00am. We had steak, sauteed shrimp, rice, mixed vegetables, corn-on-the-cob, juice to drink, and fried oreos (which I thought sounded gross, but they were actually pretty good) for dessert! It was the best thing I’ve eaten since I’ve been here at school. :)
First off, I would like to introduce myself. My name is Justine Camacho and I am a Freshman here at the wonderful Saint Martin’s University. I only had to move 30 minutes away from my hometown, Spanaway, Washington, but it is a choice I don’t regret. I think I was drawn to the beautiful campus and small class sizes.
While I’m here at SMU, I plan on studying Criminal Justice and Chemistry. I am really into forensics and crime scene analysis. I hope one day to be a forensic scientist or crime scene technician (yes, like the show), but I am still keeping my options open as well.
I would say I’m just your ordinary girl, but I’m not. I like to do things in my own way and I try to stay away from following the stream. Though, I do stray and go off my path by getting caught up in some trends at times, I know how to separate myself and get back on my path when needed.
Well, its time for the start of a new project here at Saint Martin’s. I’m really excited to see where this takes us. It is definitely going to be a great experience; not only for me and the team, but for the entire community and other prospective students of SMU!
